Waymo Zeekr M-Vision Robotaxi Concept
The future of transportation is driverless, and the partnership between Waymo, the self-driving car pioneer from Google, and Zeekr, a new premium electric car brand from China, is bringing that future closer.
Their collaboration centers around the Waymo Zeekr M-Vision, an electric minivan designed specifically for use in Waymo’s Robotaxi fleet.

In 2022, Zeekr showed off its Zeekr M-Vision idea at a car show in Guangzhou. This idea helped create the CM2E. Zeekr says it was made in Sweden for giving rides, and it can drive itself mostly on its own, like when you order a taxi.

Waymo Zeekr’s Lidar & Sensors
Despite this, one little detail suggests Zeekr might change its mind. Unlike the M-Vision concept, the camouflaged EV doesn’t have lidar and lacks some cameras and sensors, suggesting a cheaper version with fewer self-driving capabilities might be in the works.

Zeekr M-Vision Camouflage
The Zeekr CM2E was spotted covered in camouflage.
Before, pictures showed that the M-Vision idea had doors that slide open in the back and front. Zeekr is likely trying out different designs for different places and uses. Now, the model only has a sliding door in the back and a normal door in the front.
The Zeekr CM2E is a small MPV, about 4.6 meters long, and has five seats in a 2+3 setup. It’s built on Geely’s SEA-M platform. Waymo’s version may not look like a big minivan, but it doesn’t need space for a driver because it’s only for passengers.

Zeekr hasn’t told us the details yet, but we think it might use the same 800V setup as its newest car, the 007 sedan. The 007 sedan has a 310-kW motor in one version and a 475-kW motor in another version that powers all the wheels.

Waymo Zeekr M-Vision Powertrain
The new electric car from Zeekr will use something called the Stargate light band. It’s a big strip of lights, about 90 inches long, with 1,711 little lights on it.
You can even personalize it. The boss of Zeekr, An Conghui, says they spent a lot of money, about 1 billion yuan (which is around USD 140 million), on this cool feature.
Zeekr is a brand that makes electric cars under Geely, and it started about three years ago. They have four different models: the Zeekr 009 MPV, the Zeekr 001 sedan, the Zeekr X small SUV, and the Zeekr 007 sedan.
They also have a faster version of the 001 called the 001 FR. Last year, in 2023, Zeekr sold 118,685 cars, which is 65% more than in 2022. But they wanted to sell even more, aiming for 140,000. This year, in 2024, Zeekr wants to sell 230,000 cars.
The CM2E will be available for buying later this year, and Waymo, the self-driving car company, will use it. Zeekr hasn’t said if they’ll sell this new car in other countries, but based on recent pictures of it without special sensors, we think it will be sold in China and maybe Europe.

ADAS & Driving Software
Waymo brings its expertise in self-driving technology to the table. Their advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving software have been in development for years, making them a leader in the field.
Zeekr, on the other hand, contributes its experience in designing and manufacturing premium electric vehicles.
The Zeekr M-Vision combines these strengths, resulting in a Robotaxi that’s both technologically advanced and comfortable for passengers.
No Driver Seat in Waymo Zeekr
The Zeekr M-Vision ditches the traditional driver’s seat, freeing up space for a more passenger-centric cabin.
Sliding doors on both sides allow for easy entry and exit, while comfortable seating arrangements and ample legroom ensure a relaxing ride.
With no driver needed, the interior can be optimized for passenger comfort and interaction, potentially featuring entertainment systems and workspaces.
Safety remains paramount, with the M-Vision equipped with Waymo’s suite of sensors and software, ensuring a safe and reliable autonomous driving experience.
